We, the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Autism Center of Excellence Network (TACERN) are a group of five premier children's hospitals located throughout the US.
TACERN member hospitals include:
- Boston Children's Hospital
- Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
- University of Alabama at Birmingham
- University of California at Los Angeles and
- University of Texas at Houston
Our goal is to work together across TSC clinics to design and promote cutting-edge research studies. Our ultimate goal is to develop better treatments for TSC.
With these five hospitals working together through TACERN, and spread out across the nation, we hope to make being in a research study easier for families by limiting travel and time away from home as much as possible.
Our first studies launched in March 2013 and focus on identifying early markers of the development of epilepsy and Autism Spectrum Disorder in babies with TSC.
Babies with TSC will be studied over time with detailed neuropsychological assessments, advanced brain imaging and video EEGs.
Other TACERN studies about TSC are currently in development.
